COP26

Dr. Shannon Gibson's research looks at the role of civil society in international climate negotiations. Whilst working with such an amazing mentor I was able to better understand the mechanics of international climate negotiations and was able to sit in on meetings all over the world, gaining different perspectives on climate change. This opportunity has shaped my understanding of the international challenges we face when addressing climate change and also gave me ideas on how I can use what I am learning in a laboratory setting and apply it to the fight we have against climate change and apply it to saving our planet.

Through this research position and USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, I was able to spend a week on Catalina Island attending COP26 analysing the negotiations and helping give a voice to those who may not have the sufficient means to do so. This was one of the most valuable experiences I could have ever asked for in shaping my desire to make a difference in the world.
